Audi Quattro Concept

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

Audi premiered their new Quattro concept car a few weeks back in homage to the original Quattro of the 80’s. Design details we love: embossed audi rings on the quarter panel; machined aluminum steering wheel base; carbon fibre accents on the wing mirrors, rear lights, door panels; air vents in along the bonnet; the slight curves at the end of the wheel spokes. Usually concepts are so far from being production ready but this one seems ready to go. Come on Audi, build it! More pics after the jump…

Art God : Chuck Close

Monday, September 20th, 2010

One of our favorite art gods, Chuck Close, is an American painter and photographer who achieved fame as a¬†photorealist through his massive-scale portraits. Seeing his work in person is staggering as most of them are over 8 feet tall. The hyper-photorealistic effect was created by working using a grid system, painting one square of the original photo at a time instead of the traditional free hand method. The super-realism along with every day nature of the subject matter produced stunning work. In 1988 he suffered a spine breakdown that left him severely paralysed. This didn’t stop his creativity as he evolved his style to include more color and working within a larger grid system producing photo mosaic effects. If you are ever in NYC stop by the MOMA to see some of his work. Take a look at some of the crazy details after the jump…

Architecture : Faro House

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Faro architects built this contemporary modern residence in the Netherlands. The exterior surfacing is made of charred larch according to an old Japanese tradition. This charred surface makes it unnecessary to treat or paint the wood. There is a little too ¬†much use of pine throughout the interior but the design details are exquisite, particullary the large tree trunk that seems to hold up the second floor and the multiple thin slat windows. The use of living or natural elements in the interior are inspired by Japanese architect Terunobu Fujimoro. More pics after the jump…
