BMW Art Cars
Tuesday, September 14th, 2010The BMW Art Car project began when french racecar driver, Hervé Poulain, asked friend and artist Alexander Calder to paint his own personal car, a BMW 3.0 CSL.  Poulain went on to race the car in the classic 1975 Lemans endurance race. Seeing the car at Lemans sparked the interest of BMW group which led to an official Art Car program that has commisioned 17 works over the years. Artists include David Hockney, Jenny Holzer, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, and Andy Warhol.  Some examples after the jump…
